Most comments we receive say that Volleyball is a difficult sport to do play-by-play stats for, regardless of the software. From your experience with DakStats or Stats Crew, what things work well, what dont? Some comments have been made that the DakStats Volleyball package is significantly inferior to Stats Crew in this regard. What makes this so?What other comments do you have regarding volleyball play-by-play?
What I've found when trying to use the play-by-play for volleyball is that it requires that everytime the ball goes over the net to be an attack and the subsequent reception to be a dig.
Not every ball is an attack and receptions off a free ball are not - in most regards - conserded to be digs.
I've never used StatCrew so I can't speak for how it works.
I think that if that major problem was fixed than me and my student assistant staff would be able to figure out the play by play.

Raven is right. The way it works now, digging and attacking statistics are way out of whack. I know that was an issue that TAS was cleaning up heading into this season.

To answer your question, yes, DakStats Volleyball does have the Zero Block option. It is the button labeled "0 Blck" and the Hot Key is C. It will then ask you for blockers, but they are optional and you don't have to include them if you don't want to.
I was able to pick up a few things after using DakStats volleyball for the first time over the weekend.
First, it is much easier if you use two-digit numbers (i.e. 04, 02, etc.). That keeps you from having to use the tab key after every entry.
Second, since we don't need to keep up with assist attempts, it is easier to tab past that and go straight to attacks. If the attack is good, the program automatically reverts back to the assist. Leaving the assist blank until after the kill lets you avoid having to go back and delete the assist attempt if the play ends up just being an Over.
I was excited to see in Nancy P's reply that we didn't have to fill in the zero block numbers.
Let me also offer another suggestion. If you want to skip the assist attempt, Click Configure | Configurations. (a match needs to be open)
Change the default player to "Attack Player". This will automatically skip the Assist Attempt. Close and reopen DakStast for the change to take effect.
However, it's my understanding that the NAIA requires the tracking of assist attempts. (<Edited> Note: this is incorrect, the NAIA does not require the tracking of Assist attempts.) Skipping the assist attempt makes tracking VB stast quite a bit easier, but may not meet the requirements of the NAIA.
The NAIA to my knowledge does not require the tracking of assist attemtpts. Actually the NCAA does not even inculde it on their Official NCAA Detailed Box Score or on their Volleyball worksheet for keeping stats by hand.
You are correct. This goes against info we had been provided in the past, but I did confirm with Chad W. in the NAIA office. Assist Attempts are not tracked by the NAIA.
For those doing live VB stats, you may want to consider changing the following setting as mentioned in my prior post to speed up stats entry:
If you want to skip the assist attempt, Click Configure | Configurations. (a match needs to be open)
Change the default player to "Attack Player". This will automatically skip the Assist Attempt. Close and reopen DakStast for the change to take effect.
