Is this what you were looking for? Or do you want something entirely different?
We currently show only 5 players and about 6 categories...because we didn't want the page to be too long. Many people don't like huge, long pages that they have to scroll forever to get to the information that they want.
If you do want more players listed and more categories listed...is that because you want to print it out or copy/paste for publishing purposes...or because that is how you think the average fan/alumni/parent who comes to the site wants to consume the information?
Again...thanks for your feedback. It is greatly appreciated.
I know that typically, most NCAA conferences publish Top-10's and typically Top-20 and Top-25 for all stat categories, as part of their StatCrew Conference package...
I think it is that, in-depth, information, that we are looking for...
Remember - the bulk of the hits you'll probably get on the conference pages are coaches, members of the media, and SID's from all of the teams and this is the information they need...
When the Cascade Conference changed over to DakStats reporting for baseball/softball - I heard it from the media as to why the information was so hard to read, while the D-II conference in town had everything so clean
Yotes...you mentioned that you think the bulk of the hits are from SIDs and media...and that they want to consume the information different than the average person who views the site.
I think you are correct that they way an SID or Radio or Newspaper will consume the data and their needs are different than the average John Doe that hits the website.
I would disagree with you on the 'bulk' of the hits. From the web-traffic stats we keep, the bulk of the hits are from the average joe...parents, fans, students, alumni. Actually, the hits from SIDs and Media are the minority of the traffic. We want to address your needs but we also want to make the site friendly for the people who consume it the most. Marketing shows us that most people won't scroll when they hit a webpage. They don't wont long pages. They will never get to the bottom of the page.
To prove that SIDS probably are not the majority of the traffic...here are some sample numbers. One of the the stats we track are unique page views by day. This helps us know how many different people hit our site. For one week in March we had 1 million unique page views. So, if 300 NAIA school SIDs , 1000 coaches (about 4 per school...basketball, baseball, softball play in March), and 600 (about 2 per school)...thats 1900 unique visitors. It would take each of you 526 page views in those seven days to hit the 1 million unique page views. Thats assuming each one of you hit it that week....the numbers jump if during that week a few Baseball or Softball coaches didn't view any pages....when would the coaches have time to coach, and the SIDs get their job done...you would all be online junkies.
Its more realistic, that the teams have players with families (brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents), other faculty, other students, fans, and alumni....those numbers quickly dwarf the number of coaches, SIDs, and media. So, we want to develop the websync site for the mass public.
All that said...I do agree that SID/Media do hit the site every week and want to consume the data different than the public. We WILL add features based on your feedback. But, we really think the vast majority of the viewing is done by fans and alumni.
Sorry for the lengthy response...Hopefully seeing the numbers will help give some background concerning the discussion.
Please read my previous posting fully...it was a bit lengthy...but I did say 'We WILL add features based on your feedback.'
Again, We WILL add features based on your feedback. I thought sharing the traffic numbers would be beneficial or informative...and might affect how/what features you ask for in the future.
